USPS releases initial reports on KC mail delays

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The US Postal Service has released initial findings from the audits called for by Kansas Senator Roger Marshall.

The reports into Kansas City and Shawnee Mission deliveries cite employee shortages and failures to comply with standard procedures at the Kansas City Processing and Distribution Center and post offices across the KC Metro as primary factors behind delivery issues in the region.

Sen. Marshall has pressured the Postal Service since March over frequent delays reported in the Johnson County area. The Kansas-Missouri region was also listed recently among the worst in the nation. He says he hopes the issues can be resolved, and promised to keep the pressure on if they aren’t.

“I hope the USPS will take these findings and implement real solutions to these problems- until this is addressed, our team will continue to sound the alarm,” Sen. Marshall said. “We know the problems now, we need solutions. Kansans deserve consistent and reliable mail services from the USPS, and I will continue to do everything I can to make sure they implement the necessary solutions in a timely manner.”

The Postal Service is expected to implement solutions to address the shortcomings and issue a second report detailing its efforts in September.
