An inspector general audit has found that the USPS paid out some $866 million to resolve almost 3.5 million grievances over fiscal years 2022-2024, adding that “issues related to overtime and improper work assignments accounted for some of the most significant and recurring grievance payments nationwide.”
Other common issues of grievances included employees of one craft being assigned to perform the duties of another craft; management performing bargaining unit work; failure to follow the terms of the national agreement or a previously settled and arbitrated grievance; and failure by management to timely provide information requested by a union for information necessary for collective bargaining and grievance processing, a report says.
