USPS Package Tracking Access Control Implementation (Effective Wednesday, April 1, 2026)

Effective April 1, 2026, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will implement new protocols governing tracking data access. This update directly impacts all users and systems relying on USPS tracking data. Based on official guidance, the core of this transition includes:

Identity-Based Access: Queries must now be linked to a verified identity (e.g., Mailer ID / MID) or an authorized relationship.
Restricted Queries: Queries outside of verified shipping flow will be restricted or moved to a usage-based paid tracking structure.
Attribution & Traceability: All tracking activity must be identifiable and attributable to legitimate shipment flows.

Tracking is moving from “Open Access” to “Identity-Verified Visibility.”
