USPS issues holiday season warning as officials say $16m counterfeit stamp plot could put packages in limbo

THE United States Postal Service has warned gift-givers of a disturbing stamp scheme that could put presents in jeopardy this Christmas.

Officials said they’ve seized $16.2 million of counterfeit stamps since October of last year.

The USPS warned shoppers to double-check their stamps when purchasing from social media marketplaces and other e-commerce sites, as they could be useless.

The government agency said it loses millions in revenue each year due to the fraudsters, and explained that some use counterfeit stamps to transport stolen goods.

In the past year, the USPS has identified and punished 358 individuals and businesses who have used illegal postage.
