Union leader raises safety concerns at Pontiac postal facility

A union leader alleges machinery was activated while a maintenance worker was underneath it twice this year at the Pontiac Metroplex

PONTIAC, Mich. — A leader for a local postal workers union is raising safety concerns at the U.S. Postal Service’s Pontiac Metroplex facility.

The person alleges a supervisor activated machinery while a maintenance worker was working underneath it on two occasions this year.

Steve Wood, president of the 480-481 Area Local of the American Postal Workers Union, said the incidents occurred in May and early September.

Wood said the worker was not injured in either incident, but he is calling on postal management to make changes to prevent a potentially serious accident.
