U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul hopeful for USPS meeting

U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul’s office is continuing its push to resolve ongoing mail delivery problems in Brenham following widespread disruptions that affected thousands of residents.

Communications director Emily Cassil said the office actively is coordinating with policy and district teams to determine next steps and is exploring ways to conduct oversight and press the U.S. Postal Service for improvements.

The goal is to address operational, leasing and facility issues impacting the Brenham post office, Cassil said.

McCaul’s staff had a meeting scheduled with USPS on July 31, but the agency requested a reschedule because of a conflict. Since then, the congressman’s office said it has been following up and is hopeful a meeting can be arranged this week.

Cassil confirmed that all mail deliveries were current as of July 19, but acknowledged previous disruptions and apologized for the inconvenience to customers. The backlog, at one point including more than 11,000 undelivered Amazon packages, was attributed to staffing shortages and increased package volume.
