Today, NALC members rallied around the country for a fair contract and safer working conditions

NALC President Brian Renfroe joined letter carriers in Baltimore for today’s National Day of Action to deliver a clear message ahead of the opening of collective bargaining with USPS: We’re ready to fight like hell for a fair contract!

The last two contracts haven’t been fair and I don’t expect this one to either. Renfroe is on record pointing out USPS ‘S finances the last time and is expected to do so again, though it probably won’t be until afterwards. One rule of negotiation is if you can’t get pay, then get something substantial elsewhere. This seems to escape the NALC, who seem content to let it go to arbitration so they can blame someone else. There’s a lot they could ask for too; increases in a/l and s/ l, an end to deleting and changing clock rings, removing incompetent and abusive managers, to name just a few. Unfortunately, it will never happen. I predict 1.2,1.3, and 1.4.
