Today marks the anniversary of the 1970 postal strike

Today marks the anniversary of the 1970 postal strike, when letter carriers stood up after years of “collectively begging” and secured our collective-bargaining rights. Fifty-six years later, we honor their courage and remain committed to defending those hard-earned rights.
“Our pay, our benefits, our rights and protections—all of these rest on what a few thousand carriers had the courage to do more than a half-century ago. We honor their legacy by bargaining for the benefit of all letter carriers.” — NALC President Brian Renfroe
