Springfield woman burned by sulfuric acid at post office

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Now to an update on the hazmat situation in Springfield we first brought you Thursday.

A woman was taken to the hospital after being burned by sulfuric acid at an Indian Orchard post office.

According to the Springfield fire department the hazmat team determined a container of sulfuric acid opened on a sorting machine and an employee at the mailing center burned herself after grabbing it.

She was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

Officials say they called in hazmat because they couldn’t identify what the substance was because the label was illegible
