Springfield couple sued after USPS worker injured by dog

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Two people from Springfield are being sued for damages after a mailman was injured by their dog last summer.

According to court documents, Russell Hatcher, of Springfield, is suing Pam and Russ RuBert after their “highly aggressive” husky and heeler mixed-breed dog bit Hatcher while he was working his job as a United States Postal Service mail carrier last year.

At around 5 p.m. on July 12, 2024, Hatcher was delivering mail to the RuBerts’ home, which required him to step into a screened-in porch to deliver the mail.

Pam RuBert opened the door, and the dog escaped the home and attacked Hatcher, biting his lip and face.

Hatcher suffered tearing of the flesh and scarring, with subsequent related difficulties in use of his mouth and lip. He needed a surgery to repair his lip and will require sustain related medical expenses in the future, the petition says.

The four-count petition alleges negligence and liability, asking for more than $25,000 in damages for each count.

A court date hasn’t been issued yet. Hatcher is being represented by the Easter Law Firm in Springfield.
