PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A postal worker is facing charges after federal investigators said he beat his co-worker with a 25-pound, nearly 5-foot-long steel pipe.
It happened at the USPS Processing and Distribution Center in Eastwick on July 21.
According to court documents first reported by CourtWatch, Steven Louis, 30, heard his co-worker was talking behind his back.
The feds said Louis grabbed a safety bar from a piece of mail equipment, confronted his coworker, and hit him — first in the chest, according to a witness, and then in the head, leaving him seriously hurt.
The victim was knocked off his feet, unconscious and bleeding. He suffered multiple skull and facial fractures, and has bleeding in his brain.
Court documents said Louis, who lives in Bustleton, admitted to the attack. According to prosecutors, he “calmly went back to work sorting mail” immediately afterward.
He is charged with assault on a federal officer and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
