SD postal workers approach uncertainty about new Postmaster General

South Dakota’s Postal Workers Union Chapter President Todd West said there is still some concern, but they are also hopeful as Steiner gets closer to assuming office.

“We really don’t know what he’s going to do,” West said. “With him coming from a company that has at least dealt with parcels and packages and has overnight service, hopefully, he’s got to where it will benefit us. [Former Postmaster General] DeJoy didn’t have that. The new postmaster general coming in could be a positive thing.”

David Steiner will begin a new era as Postmaster General this month. The former FedEx board member will have his work cut out for him as he addresses the ongoing saga of the Delivering for America plan, introduced by his predecessor.

The plan was opposed by some members of Congress and the Postal Workers Union, who believed it would hurt rural communities.
