SC mail carrier warms hearts when she reconnects best friends with lost letter

MONCKS CORNER — When Lyssa Fincher Cameron opened up the cluster of mailboxes to deliver the day’s letters, she didn’t expect to see a handwritten note inside.

“Hello you are my best fried!” a child had written in neon pink marker, innocently misspelling the last word and the recipient’s name. “From Mariah. To Emmanuell” it read along with a purple heart and other doodles.

The letter was adorable. But the address was incomplete.

Trying to figure out where to deliver it, Cameron safely tucked it away and went about her day as a Lowcountry mail carrier, a job she has loved for 12 years.

“I held onto it for a day or two trying to figure out how to get it to the girls,” she said. “I realize I actually met them a couple times before that instance and just never knew their names. So I was brainstorming how to find their address and put it in the right box.”
