Rincon woman seeks answers after postal worker throws away her mail

RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) – A woman in Rincon wants answers after a postal worker threw away her mail. WTOC spoke with her to find out what happened and what the Postal Service is doing about it.

“Still to this day, no mail, no contact,” said Desaya Williams, Rincon resident.

Williams said the story started last year. Williams lives in a neighborhood near Rincon Elementary School. She said one day in October, her mail carrier Christian Ferrera refused to deliver her mail.

“We had a vehicle parked at my home, and the mail carrier came to the home, brought a package to the door and said that the car was too close to the mailbox,” said Williams.

Williams said she offered to walk with him to get her mail from his truck, but Ferrera said no and that he was going to throw away her mail instead.

The following day after the mail carrier left, Williams went to the Rincon post office to see if she could pick up her mail.

She says other employees couldn’t find the missing mail.

For the next couple of months, Williams kept asking for her mail, even as Ferrera continued to cause problems.

“If I was leaving out of the subdivision, he would stop in the middle of the road and just would not move. So, I would have to back up and go down another road,” said Williams.

Ferrera was eventually pulled off Williams’ route after she said he admitted to his managers that he did throw away her mail. The United States Postal Service even offered her compensation for her troubles.

“And it does not make up, so I do want to keep this going and see where else this goes,” said William’s.
