TROY, MI – In what rescuers have described as a “horror story,” two puppies were recently abandoned in a blue post office box in Metro Detroit, officials said.
The 10-week-old pit bull mix puppies were found by a mail carrier Wednesday morning in the blue box at the Troy Post Office, WDIV Local 4 reports.
“It was below freezing this morning and these babies were tossed aside with little care as to what would happen next,” No Dogs Left Behind, a Berkley-based rescue, said on Facebook. “We are faced with these horror stories every day.”
They were dehydrated, hungry and cold, and covered with feces, urine and dirt, the TV station reported.
The post office contacted the rescue, and they were able to take the puppies. Within hours, the pups were cuddled up together in front of a fireplace.
