Woman with Down syndrome gets her wish to deliver mail for a day

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – From a very young age, Grace Flannery has dreamed of becoming a mail carrier. Since she was born with Down syndrome, that goal may have seemed unattainable but not for Grace.

Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat will keep the U.S. Postal Service from delivering, even if it’s fulfilling a wish.

On Tuesday, Grace put on the blue shirt, gray pants, grabbed her mailbag and went to work. “I’m gonna say my name and I’ll shake their hands and I’ll look them directly in the eye.”

If becoming a postal worker is a dream come true for 21-year-old Grace, then her fairy godmother is letter carrier, Melissa Tilton.

Tilton got the call from the postmaster last week. She had been nominated for a special job. “I love my job to begin with. Then, when I find out someone else wants to do it, I’m like, yeah, let’s do this.”
