Heavy wind caused serious damage to the post office in Derry Borough on Tuesday morning.
No one was injured when strong winds caused part of the roof to buckle at 9:42 a.m., according to Derry Volunteer Fire Department officials.
Because of the damage, postal operations have been moved temporarily to the New Derry post office at 5754 Route 982, according to USPS spokesman Tad Kelley.
“We’ll have maintenance personnel out to the Derry office so we can assess damage and repairs going forward,” Kelley said.
The Derry post office is a leased facility, and Kelley said he does not have a timeline for repairs.
The post office was closed for the day and is expected to remain closed in the immediate future.
Window service hours at the New Derry post office have been extended and will operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
