STAMFORD, CT — A city man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly brandished a facsimile gun at a U.S. postal worker in Stamford, according to police.

Robert Fierro, 33, was arrested Thursday on charges of first-degree threatening and breach of peace.

Stamford Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin said police responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery of mailman on East Middle Patent Road around 1:45 p.m. Thursday.

The worker told police he was on his usual mail route that afternoon when a man he identified as Fierro approached him wearing a black ski mask and carrying a weapon, Conklin said. The mail delivery person ultimately drove away from the scene unharmed, Conklin said

The postal worker said Fierro, with whom he’s long been familiar, had been “acting erratically” in recent weeks, according to Conklin.

Conklin said officers responded to the scene where they found Fierro “running down his driveway.” Investigators also recovered a BB gun from next to his mailbox, Conklin said.
