At a time when the Postal Service is more important than ever, it’s concerning about some proposals circulating in Washington that would drastically change package delivery services. Smart postal reform to restore financial sustainability and codify existing services makes sense. But some more extreme options should be taken off the table completely.
For one thing, the Postal Service should not be privatized. Private carriers’ prices are already high. If the Postal Service’s package services disappeared, it would make the prices at private carriers even more expensive.
Postal Service delivery must stay six days a week, and prices should remain the same. It would be terrible for small business if we couldn’t ship on weekends or our products couldn’t be delivered on Saturday. Shipping costs already cut into our profits. Higher package prices would be disastrous.
