OMAHA, Neb. — A former U.S. Postal Service employee was sentenced to probation, community service and ordered to pay nearly $7,000 in restitution for selling post office tires on eBay and shipping them to buyers free via the USPS.
U.S. Attorney Joe Kelley said that Gregory B. Lane, 53, Omaha, while employed at the Omaha Vehicle Maintenance Facility, advertised and sold via his personal eBay account at least 22 Goodyear tires that were the property of the U.S. Postal Service. He received at least %5,549.93 in electronic transfer payments for sales of those tires, Kelly said. Lane then used internal mailing labels to ship the tires to the eBay purchasers at USPS expense, causing at least $1,428.90 in additional loss.
Lane was sentenced to four years’ probation, 300 hours of community service and ordered to pay the USPS $6,978.33 in restitution.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
