A former letter carrier in the Springfield-area has admitted to stealing money out of the greeting cards he was supposed to deliver.
Brandon E. Holt, 33, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to theft of mail by an employee, which is a felony.
Holt worked as a letter carrier in Greene County and Christian County from 2014 through 2017.
During that time, a plea agreement says Holt would pick out envelopes from the outgoing hamper that appeared to be greeting cards. He would then open the envelope and steal the cash inside.
After getting complaints of missing mail, the United States Postal Service started investigating Holt in 2017.
The plea agreement says investigators gave Holt “test pieces” of mail for him to deliver, which he stole.
