Overgrown weeds surround Post Office in Clovis; Who is to blame?

A Post Office in Clovis is surrounded by overgrown weeds — and it’s not the first time this has happened.

In a statement to Fox26 News, Chad McCollum, Clovis’ Public Affairs and Information Supervisor says, “The property in question is maintained by the U.S. Postal Service and falls outside of our jurisdiction. The City of Clovis encourages all residents and business owners to ensure their property is free from debris, weeds and other fire hazards.”

Fox26 News also reached out to the U.S. Postal Service asking about the tall weeds.

A spokesperson thanked us for bringing the problem to its attention and said it would be cleaned up by Friday.

“The custodians at this office maintain the landscaping on a weekly basis,” says Meiko Patton, with the U.S. Postal Service.

Patton says the landscaping equipment was recently stolen from the Clovis location, which has impaired the workers’ ability to do their jobs.

“We are in the process of replacing this equipment,” Patton says.

This isn’t the only U.S. Post Office that’s received complaints about overgrown weeds.

A blog on the U.S. Postal Service’s website had similar complaints from people in Illinois and Florida in the comments.
