HOYT LAKES, MN – The mail carrier hit by a man in a pick up truck last week on the Iron Range is out of the hospital and on the road to recovery, the United States Postal Service said Thursday.
The 55-year-old woman, who hasn’t been identified, was ejected from her truck after allegedly being hit by Alan Birt of Bovey.
It happened last Wednesday in Hoyt Lakes.
The woman was rushed to the hospital with a life-threatening skull fracture and four broken ribs.
Birt told police he was upset with the US Postal Service and purposely used his truck to crash into the mail truck at a high rate of speed, according to the criminal complaint.
Birt is being held on $100,000 bail and is charged with first degree assault.
