ANDERSON, Ind. —A Henry County woman’s alleged mishandling of mail while working for the U.S. Postal Service has resulted in the filing of criminal charges.
Deborah D. Switzer, 33, of Middletown, was charged Wednesday in Madison Circuit Court 5 with official misconduct, theft and conversion.
According to a report filed by a special agent with the USPS:
• An investigation was launched Sept. 24 after a bag of “deliverable mail” was found in a trash can at a GetGo convenience store near the post office on Anderson’s west side.
• Switzer had been assigned to deliver the 34 pieces of mail found in the trash to homes along West 12th Street in Anderson on Sept. 23.
Postal service GPS equipment did not show Switzer was in that area on Sept. 23, but reflected she was instead at the convenience store where the mail was discovered.
