Man arrested after post office break-in

GLENEDEN BEACH — A man arrested Saturday was identified by police as one of two late night mail thieves caught on camera breaking into the Gleneden Beach Post Office, looting dozens of post office boxes and leaving with a sack of stolen mail on Aug. 18.

Joseph Story, 44, was arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s office deputies around noon Saturday on charges related to the break-in.

According to a police affidavit filed Aug. 23, video surveillance footage provided to the sheriff’s office by the Gleneden Beach Post Office property owner shows Story entering the building the night of the break-in and later exiting with a large bag. At least one other man could be seen in the footage during the break-in, but he has yet to be identified.
