
DeKALB – A postal truck collided with multiple vehicles on Sycamore Road on Friday after the driver suffered an apparent medical emergency, DeKalb police said.
DeKalb police responded to a call around 2:30 pm. Friday, for an crash involving multiple vehicles, police Cmdr Steve Lekkas said.
An investigation found that a U.S. Postal Service truck was northbound on Sycamore when the driver appeared to lose control, swerving into oncoming traffic, Lekkas said.
Lekkas said he was unable to identify the people involved in the crashes while the investigation is ongoing.
“The early investigation makes it seem like he had a medical reaction,” Lekkas said. “He apparently lost control, and sideswiped a red Chevy S-10 truck, then he rear-ended a gold Oldsmobile.”
Lekkas said after hitting the two other cars, the truck read-ended a red Hyundai Sonata. The truck and the Hyundai ended up in the grassy area on the side of the road in front of the Northern Illinois University Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. at 3100 Sycamore Road.
“The more serious impact was [to] the Hyundai Sonata,” Lekkas said. “That vehicle had significant damage.”
Lekkas said the driver of the Sonata, as well as the postal worker, were transported to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.
