RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The mail carrier who was arrested for a DWI while on his rounds has been convicted of drinking and driving.
Kevin Brown was arrested in December after he ran his mail truck into a family’s parked pickup. KRQE News 13’s cameras weren’t allowed inside the courtroom as he pled guilty. However, KRQE’s crew caught him on his way out of the courthouse where he had nothing to say to the cameras.
Police video shows Brown had a hard time with his field sobriety tests. At one point, he told officers he was dyslexic and couldn’t tell which way was right or left. Police even found a juice bottle in his truck that was filled with vodka.
Throughout the arrest, he maintained his innocence, even giving officers an excuse for running into the family’s truck. He dropped all those stories in court Tuesday. Brown pled guilty to drinking and driving and to having an open container of alcohol.
Since it’s Brown first DWI conviction, Judge Robert Cook gave him a break and dropped a careless driving charge. Brown will have to serve 24-hours community service, install an interlock device in his car, and pay a $500 fine.
