CHICAGO (CBS) — A U.S. Postal Service worker was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting Thursday morning in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side.
The woman was shot in the backs of both legs, the stomach, and the back of her head. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
Police said the gunmen were in separate vehicles driving by at a high rate of speed when the shots were fired.
The mail carrier works out of the Grand Crossing branch and is relatively new to the route, according to neighbors.
Some of her co-workers came to the scene distraught over what happened.
The United States Postal Service is offering a reward up to $50,000 for information on the shooting. You can leave an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com.
Police said she does not appear to have been the intended target.
This is the USPS worker’s manager. She says the victim works at the Grand Crossing Branch and this was her normal route.
