House approves bipartisan bill

The U.S. House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation this week to help the Postal Service achieve financial sustainability.

The bill, which addresses a variety of operational and financial issues, was approved Feb. 8 in a 342-92 vote.

To become law, the legislation must also win approval from the Senate and be signed by the president.

“The Postal Service thanks the leadership of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform for their thoughtful, bipartisan collaboration to pass the much-needed Postal Service Reform Act,” said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

“If passed by the Senate, this legislation will have the same operational and financial impacts as the self-help steps we are taking at the Postal Service to provide the American people with the delivery service they expect and deserve.”

In addition to achieving legislative and regulatory reform, the Postal Service must improve efficiency, reduce costs, innovate and grow revenue — the central tenets of the Delivering for America plan — in order to return to financial stability.
