Former Lakeland postal carrier pleads to cashing check he took from a mailbox on his route

BARTOW — A former Lakeland mail carrier has pleaded guilty to charges that he took a check from the mailbox of a resident on his route and cashed it, court records show.

Surveillance video at an Amscot location in Lakeland identified Jason Foster II, 25, as the person who cashed the $55 check, reports stated.

The resident had written the check to the Postmaster for 100 stamps and had left it in her home mailbox on Oct. 19, 2019. She notified the Polk County Sheriff’s Office three days later when the stamps she had ordered never arrived.

According to the arrest affidavit. Foster presented his driver’s license and his United States Postal Service identification badge to cash the check at the Amscot location at 3532 S. Florida Ave. He endorsed the check with his signature, reports stated, and received $49.55, after the Amscot fee.
