
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) – A former FedEx employee is facing up to five years in prison after being convicted by a federal jury of mail obstruction.
According to the office of U.S. Attorney Mike Dunavant, 25-year-old Braylon Butler was a box sorter in 2015 at the FedEx Hub where a large volume of U.S. mail is processed through a contract between FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service.
Prosecutors say Butler was caught on security video opening shipping containers and searching through mail for brightly-colored greeting card envelopes containing money or gift cards. Video footage showed Butler appearing to open an envelope.
