John M. Dunlop has been appointed plant and process modernization executive director.

The plant and process modernization team was created by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to deliver on a key tenet of the Delivering for America plan: investing in the organization’s mail and package processing network.

The team will consist of four core groups: process design, plant modernization, material handling and modernization implementation.

Among its tasks are creating standardized floor plans and procuring state-of-the-art processing equipment.

“Over the past 30 years, John has been involved in the design, financial justification, installation and activation of equipment and systems in almost every major processing plant in the network,” DeJoy said in announcing the appointment.

“He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role — which gives him a unique perspective on the integration of technology, standard methods and operations.”

Most recently, Dunlop was senior director of robotics and material handling. He started with USPS in 1989 as a mechanical engineer and has held numerous positions in engineering and operations.
