An evangelical Christian man who failed to report for work on at least 24 Sundays when he was scheduled to make deliveries for Amazon.com Inc. under the Postal Service’s contract with the e-commerce giant lacks evidence he was denied a religious accommodation or forced to quit, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled.
Gerald Groff was a noncareer letter carrier with the USPS, and a key part of his job was being flexible, the court said. His postmaster nevertheless exempted Groff from Sunday work for religious reasons until 2016, roughly three years after the USPS agreed to make deliveries for Amazon.
