Accomplice gets almost 10 years in federal prison for armed robbery of U.S. postal letter carrier

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Wendy Thomas, 39, was sentenced to nine and half years in federal prison, according to U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant.

According to the release from Dunavant, a gunman approached a letter carrier with a semi-automatic handgun as she was getting in her postal truck on November 21 2016.

The incident happened in the 800 block of Baltic Street in Binghampton.

The gunman asked for cash and checks that were in the vehicle and took several envelopes and packages, the release said. Then gunman then threatened to shoot the letter carrier if she moved before fleeing the scene in a 2005 Toyota Matrix.

That gunman was identified as Jamal Cherry and the getaway driver was identified as Wendy Thomas, according to investigators.
