Postal workers’ union raises concerns over suspected mold at Hilliard office

HILLIARD, Ohio (WCMH) — The local postal workers’ union is raising concerns over suspected widespread mold at the Hilliard Post Office. Union leaders say months of complaints about the conditions have gone unanswered.

Jojo Mercer recently worked at the location for about three years. He says there are giant black blobs across areas of the ceiling in the office that several employees suspect to be mold.

“If the building looks that bad, I can only imagine how we would look after being there for years,” Mercer said. “It chokes people up. A lot of the carriers that are posted near that office would get sick frequently.”

Mercer says he remembers the black spots in the post office since he first started there in 2023. He says employees have submitted several written complaints to upper management since at least last August, citing concerns over employee and customer health.

“I came forward with a formal safety complaint, and I was told that the safety director had handled it, but two years later, we’re still dealing with mold in the building.”
