Postal worker allegedly damages Eureka home’s garage door, lawn

Eureka Police arrested a 29-year-old St. Louis man, who was working for the U.S. Postal Service, for leaving the scene of an accident and property damage. The man allegedly drove a 2000 Ford postal truck through the front lawn and into the garage door at a home in the 800 block of Forest Run Drive, police reported.

The accident happened at about 12:20 p.m. Sept. 22. A 35-year-old Eureka woman, who lives at the home, shared surveillance video showing the truck driving into the garage door and leaving the scene, the report said.

The estimated cost to repair the garage door was $5,000, according to the report.

The man came to the Police Station on Sept. 25, and he said his foot had become stuck under the brake pedal and he lost control of the truck. He also said he believed he had stopped before hitting anything, the report said.

The man was arrested and booked. He was issued summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident and destruction of property, Capt. Michael Werges said.

The U.S. Postal Service told Eureka Police, it also will investigate the accident, the report said.
