Postal Service presents 50-year Service Award to Letter Carrier

CARMEL, IN — Carmel Letter Carrier Barb Crane was recently recognized for her 50 years of federal service. She has been a Postal Service employee for 46 years, working at Fort Benjamin Harrison and the Department of Veterans Affairs before starting her postal career.

During a celebration at the Carmel Post Office, postal officials celebrated Crane’s milestone with a special presentation of her 50-year Service Award and pin. District Manager Christi Johnson-Kennedy thanked Crane for her many years of dedicated service as part of the Indiana postal family.

Crane has carried the same route for 40 years. “My customers are like family to me. Many sent flowers and came to the funerals when my parents passed away. I believe you have to help people out when they need it. When you care about people, they care about you. I’m there for my customers and they are there for me.”

When asked what she remembers about the early days of her postal career, she smiles and recalls, “My first route was all walking. I walked 12 miles a day for five years. You can bet I lost a lot of weight during that time.”

Crane says this milestone is not the end of her postal career – yet. She plans to retire next May.
