Postal service inspector general to investigate South Dakota mail service

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Sen. Mike Rounds says the U.S. Postal Service’s inspector general has agreed to an investigation into mail service in South Dakota. The update comes less than two months after Rounds sent the inspector general a letter requesting an investigation.

“They were in my office, and the agreement with the Inspector General is that they’re going to do it clandestinely,” Rounds said. “They’re not going to tell the postal service where they’re showing up, when they’re showing up. They’ve told us they will let my office know when they’re on site, but they’re not gonna let the postal service know it because they don’t believe the postal service will play fair with them.”

Rounds originally sent a letter to the postmaster general in September asking him to restore reliable service in South Dakota. Rounds points to a regional distribution center model that leads to mail traveling on indirect routes. The senator has said mail pieces traveling across or to South Dakota are going around and outside the state before reaching their final destinations

Welcome to the club OIG. You guys know the USPS isn’t going to play fair, but it’s nice to see it admitted for once. They don’t play fair with their employees either, as we all know. You shouldn’t have said anything because they’re famous for adding staff and using overtime until the heat is off, then it’s back to business as usual. The PMG told the Senator to pound sand; ask the Senator from Georgia how it worked out for him when he tried to move the USPS to improve service. Georgia’s is among the worst in the country. Good luck.
