KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A U.S. Postal Service driver died after a hit-and-run crash in Kansas City, and the driver responsible has not been found, police say.
The Kansas City Police Department said first responders were called to the intersection of 30th and Benton Blvd. around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, after reports of a crash.
Investigators learned that a USPS Dodge van was traveling south on Benton Boulevard. when a gray Chevrolet Equinox ran a stop sign and entered the intersection from E. 30th Street, directly into the van’s path.
On Friday morning, the postal service identified the worker as 34-year-old Gerald Nevels.
Police note that the driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene and has not been identified or located.
KCPD said it marked the city’s 26th fatal crash of the year, compared to 24 at the same point in 2025. This is also the second collision involving a USPS vehicle in as many days.
