CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – An investigator with the United States Postal Inspection Service testified Tuesday in federal court about how he was able to initially find two suspects in the March 2024 murder of a letter carrier in Warren while the carrier was delivering mail.
Joshua Gardner of USPIS testified before U.S. Judge Donald C. Nugent in the U.S. Northern District Court of Ohio that soon after Jont’e Davis, 33, was killed on March 2, 2024 while he was in his mail truck on Olive Avenue NE, Gardner already began writing search warrants.
Gardner was called as a witness in the trial of Thomas Sledge, 46, and his son Kaprise Sledge, 25. They are charged with murder of an employee or officer of the United States and discharge or use of a firearm during a crime of violence for the death of Davis.
One of those warrants Gardner testified he wrote was for the three big cell phone carriers — AT&T, Verizon and TMobile — to provide a list of devices that were within a 150-meter radius of where Davis was killed and where the truck investigators say was used in the shooting at 429 Maryland Ave. NE.
