ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – A postal carrier for the United States Postal Service was arrested after he allegedly tried to strike a 10-year-old with his USPS vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said troopers responded to Sacred Heart on Dec 27 in reference to a child being struck by a vehicle on Kingfisher Way and Kingfisher Court.
Investigators said they learned William White, a postal carrier for USPS, had dropped a package off at the wrong home on Kingfisher Way.
The child, whose family owns the residence, realized it was the wrong address and retrieved the package, placing it on his scooter to take to the correct address, according to FHP.
Officials said White thought the child was stealing the package and drove his USPS vehicle towards the child, running over his scooter. The child was able to get away in a nearby yard before the scooter was struck.
White then grabbed the scooter and placed it in his vehicle before tossing it in a nearby yard after a family member of the child went to confront him, according to FHP.
Officials said White was interviewed and arrested on Wednesday, Dec 31 after he returned to work
