Phoenix man says mailman injured his dog; USPS says incident is under review

PHOENIX (AZFamily) —A Phoenix man says he’s upset and looking for answers after his seven-year-old Pomeranian was injured by his mail carrier.

It was a typical Wednesday morning in May for Curtis Yurcik, who had stepped away from watering the trees in his yard to take some trash out back while Chewbacca was playing in the yard.

“I would say all that happened in 60 seconds,” remembered Yurcik.

While he was out back, Yurcik heard Chewbacca barking.

“I looked and I thought, ‘ah 10 o’clock it’s the mailman.’ So I start towards the front side of the house. That’s when I heard him yell and yipe and cry and come running and blood pouring off his head and nose and I’m like ‘what the hell?’” he said.

When Yurcik returned to the front, he said Chewbacca had a big gash above his eye.

He says he confronted the mailman a few houses down. Yurcik says the mailman told him he hit Chewbacca in the head with an object.
