WACO, Texas (KWTX)—The Waco Post Office fleet has been upgraded with new, higher-capacity vehicles, officials said, increasing efficiency.
The vehicles introduce air conditioning, 360° cameras and other safety features. One of them is electric which Waco Postmaster Bret Watkins said is more cost efficient. He said the increased storage capacity has allowed carriers to make fewer trips back to the Post Office to restock packages.
“With our new technology for delivery and sorting systems you’ll be able to track your package every step of the way so you’ll know exactly when it’s coming,” Watkins said. “When it’s loaded on the truck you’ll see it as a consumer so you’ll know it’s coming that day.”
The new vehicles are a part of the USPS’ $40 billion Delivering for America plan to modernize US Post Offices. The Waco sorting and delivery facility saw renovations from this plan in 2024 with machines that help automate package sorting.
“The less mail has to move around and get sorted the less likely it is there’s gonna be any errors in sorting that mail,” Watkins said.
The previous delivery vehicles had not seen an upgrade in 30 years.
The new vehicles have been operating for the Waco Post Office since Dec. 2024.
“It’s really helped the morale of my employees every day,” Watkins said.
