New Mexico elected officials push for answers two years after Chimayo post office fire

Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández, along with senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján have sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, urging the United States Postal Service to re-establish a permanent location.

“We know that rural post offices are the lifeblood of the community. They don’t just deliver mail. They deliver medication. They deliver checks. But they also create a community where people gather to share stories as they pick up their mail,” said Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-New Mexico)

Congresswoman Leger Fernandez said about 3,000 people depend on a physical post office in Chimayo.
