PALMETTO, Ga. — A new U.S. Postal Service internal audit raises new criticism of the embattled Palmetto mail facility, which has been under fire for poor service and mail gridlock. The report says it’s better than it was, but still not good enough.
The postal service audit uses the word “gridlocked” over and over again to describe its facility in Palmetto. Launched in 2024 to modernize and streamline postal operations, the Palmetto facility instead has faced staggering mail delivery delays and withering criticism from customers and politicians, including U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Georgia).
“Georgians suffered immensely- prescriptions that never arrived for seniors, small businesses that couldn’t operate, tax documents, report documents that never arrived,” (in the mail), Ossoff told 11Alive in May.
