Though Oshkosh Defense is in the process of helping the United States Postal Service (USPS) replace its aging fleet of Grumman Long Life Vehicle (LLV) fleet with the brand new Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV), the Post Office is also purchasing a number of Ford E-Transit vans, too. Trouble is, much like the LLV, these Ford E-Transit deliveries were behind schedule as recently as a few months ago. Now, however, it seems as if The Blue Oval has managed to fulfill almost all of its orders from USPS, after all.
According to the Associated Press, USPS has now taken delivery of 8,200 of the 9,250 Ford E-Transit vans it ordered from FoMoCo, but that certainly isn’t the case with the NGDV. Rather, the Post Office has only received 300 all-electric versions of that delivery vehicle, as well as 1,000 gas-powered units, out of the 51,500 it has ordered. USPS plans to continue to utilize gas vehicles for longer routes, but by 2026, the vast majority of its new vehicle orders will consist of EVs.
