Mid-August trial set in Warren mail carrier murder case

CLEVELAND – Two Warren men are scheduled to go on trial in federal court next month for the March 2024 shooting death of a mail carrier in that city.

During a hearing in U.S. District Court on Thursday, Judge Donald Nugent ordered that the jury trial for a father and son will begin on Monday, August 17.

Kaprise Sledge, who faces murder and firearm charges alongside his father, Thomas Sledge are charged in the death of postal worker Jonte Davis in Warren.

During a court hearing earlier this month, attorneys for the defendants told Judge Nugent that their clients maintained their “not guilty” pleas and would go on trial as scheduled.

A hearing is scheduled today on various motions filed in the case, including requests by the defendants’ lawyers to suppress evidence, including cell phone data, tracking information, and license plate records.
