Man threatened to shoot post office clerk during Portland robbery attempt, police say

A man is facing multiple charges after police said he threatened to shoot a United States Postal Service clerk while trying to rob a post office in Portland.

The Portland Police Department said officers responded to the USPS Post Office at 125 Forest Ave., shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a robbery.

Police said a 32-year-old man, later identified as Jacobie Jefferson, approached the counter, demanded the clerk open the register and told the clerk he would shoot them.

The USPS clerk refused to open the register and Jefferson quickly left the post office while making further threats, according to police.
