Man gets prison after spree of post office box break-ins in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man will spend 10 months in prison after breaking into post office boxes in three Nebraska towns and stealing a debit card.

U.S. District Judge Brian Buescher sentenced 42-year-old Joseph Weaver of California on Thursday for use of an unauthorized access device.

Last fall, Weaver went on a spree, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

In September, he pried open 13 post office boxes at the post office in Fairmont and also tried to get inside the building.

Prosecutors said Weaver found a debit card in the mail and racked up $3,000 in charges on it.

The next month, he broke into nine boxes at the post office in Trumbull, authorities said.

Then he hit the post office in Geneva, where he broke into three boxes.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Weaver also stole from rural mailboxes in Henderson and tried to break into the post office there
