Mail truck spills piles of packages in South Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Piles of packages spilled out of a mail truck early Wednesday morning in South Memphis, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

It happened at South Parkway East and South Bellevue Boulevard.

MPD said the spillage of packages happened after the mail truck took a sharp turn. Officers responded just before 4 a.m. to the scene after they received a call about a crash at the intersection.

It was unknown if anyone was injured.

FOX13 arrived to find several packages on the ground and containers of mail outside a USPS truck.

A spokesperson for the United States Postal Service told FOX13, “The Postal Service takes seriously the security and sanctity of the mail, including when transporting items on roadways in Memphis and across the state and the nation. This morning, a postal truck inadvertently dropped some of its load along the highway. Postal officials are working with local law enforcement to retrieve mail and packages which will be transported to their intended destination.”
